Seedings versus Cal-Hi Sports girls rankings is this week’s theme. The biggest difference is by and large seedings are computer driven while these rankings come from personal observation and years of observing and evaluating the state’s top girls basketball talent. As of these current rankings we will have traversed the state and personally seen 24 of the TOP 30 teams. One of the more glaring differences in rankings versus seedings was in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs where we have consistently had Rancho Christian as a top three team in D1 compared to No. 8 in seedings. It’s no big upset to us at all that the No. 8 is now in the final. The first eight spots this week, meanwhile, stay the same despite the very best CIFSS Open teams playing each other.
Note: We have to begin this week with some sadness. Caruthers assistant coach Larry Trigueiro, considered by many as the heart and soul of girls basketball in the CIF Central Section, passed away shortly after the team’s D1 section quarterfinal loss to Clovis. Cal-Hi Sports would like to offer condolences to the Trigueiro family, the Caruthers community and to all those in the entire California girls basketball community whose lives Larry enriched, including very much ours.
