The postseason is in full swing across the state and this is the first week where we have major changes and newcomers to the latest State Top 30 boys basketball rankings, primarily from the results of the loaded CIFSS D1 playoffs. The important games for those ranked clubs are coming up on Tuesday, as the losers of the four quarterfinal games will not qualify for the SoCal regionals. None of those teams are ranked ahead of any of the 10 CIFSS open participants, even the teams that are currently 0-2 and in danger of not qualifying for the regional. We break down how perplexing and short-sighted we think that CIFSS decision is. Other playoffs brackets around the state begin this week and another one that should impact the rankings in the coming weeks is the CIF Sac Joaquin Section D1 playoffs.
