When the very first Cal-Hi Sports state football rankings were compiled in the late 1970s by founder Nelson Tennis, they were done in five divisions (Class AAAA, etc.). We don’t do these anymore during the season, but to keep the archives going so that we have a version of them for every season we have done rankings since 1975 we have continued to compile a final ranking by five divisions. The No. 1 teams of Santa Ana Mater Dei for D1, Newbury Park for D2, Twelve Bridges for D3, St. Vincent de Paul for D4 and Rio Hondo Prep for D5 have already been announced. We now have 10 teams or more listed for each of those five divisions as well.
