State Stat Stars & Record Updates

We begin with a look at why the computer rankings are perhaps so bad at the end of the season when no one is paying attention to them as much. Next, we celebrate the milestone coaching wins by Corona Centennial’s Matt Logan and San Mateo Serra’s Patrick Walsh. And then there’s the usual stat stars, including Newbury Park’s Brady Smigiel going past 10,000 career passing yards, a team rushing for 673 yards against an opponent with a QB who had 487 yards passing and seven TDs, and a newly eligible receiver at Rancho Christian with 32 catches for more than 500 yards in just two games.

Computer rankings done by CalPreps (which actually is the same as those used by MaxPreps) are as relevant as ever. Many CIF sections use them to seed teams into their playoffs, some absolutely with no possibility of a switch even if it would be to avoid two teams from playing that just played each other. Others have some caveats attached such as no B league teams in the CIF Central Coast Section that can be in the Open Division or in D1.
