State Stat Stars of the Week

Gavin Farinha of Turlock Christian (left) hasn’t matched the six no-hitters from last season, but his strikeout totals are just as impressive. At right is pitcher Eva Hurtado of JSerra, who had two straight no-hitters in the CIFSS playoffs. Photos: PerfectGame.org & @JserraSoftball / Twitter.com.

This feature serves as our statewide collection of milestone achievements in California high school sports. For baseball, we have players mentioned from unbeaten team at Ganesha of Pomona that is averaging more than 14 runs scored per game plus a seventh career no-hitter for Turlock Christian’s Gavin Farinha. For softball, Mountain House slugger makes state record book with two grand slams in one game and we have record updates for Pinole Valley’s Kailani Tatro. Her 25 pitching wins not yet in the record book, but her career doubles is a new NCS record.
