Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top six schools in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history with the most CIF state championship appearances, according to CalHiSports.com.
This is the sixth season that CalHiSports.com and FOX 40 have partnered together to have these SJS Top 5 lists as part of the station’s weekly high school football highlights show. Tune in on Fridays at 10:30 for the Game of the Week, top four plays and more. The top 5 list from last week’s show is later revealed on our site. Last week’s list was the final list provided for this season.
TOP 6 SCHOOLS IN THE CIF SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION FOR MOST CIF STATE CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCES

4. (tie) St. Mary’s (Stockton) with 2
Rams lost in thrilling state finals in 2008 and 2016 (one was in overtime) to same school (Cathedral Catholic of San Diego).
4. (tie) Oakdale with 2
It’s 1-1 for the Mustangs. Their win was in D3-A in 2016.
4. (tie) Escalon with 2
State small school power is 2-0 in state finals with the last one coming just two years ago.
3. Folsom with 4
This is the only school in the state that is 4-0 or better in state finals. Last one was in 2018.
1. (tie) Del Oro (Loomis) with 5
Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles are 1-4 in their state title games. Only win was in 2015 in D2-AA.
1. (tie) Central Catholic (Modesto) with 5
The Raiders lost in their first state final in 2017, but are 4-0 since, including four in a row from 2012 to 2015.
