Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Mark Demsky and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five high school rivalry trophies in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, according to CalHiSports.com.
This is the sixth season that CalHiSports.com and FOX 40 have partnered together to have these SJS Top 5 lists as part of the station’s weekly high school football highlights show. Tune in on Fridays at 10:30 for the Game of the Week, top four plays and more. The top 5 list from last week’s show is later revealed on our site. For the top 5 list for this week, it will be the top five schools with the most undefeated seasons in section history. Check out the show to see those schools revealed.
TOP 5 RIVALRY TROPHIES IN CIF SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION
(Not the best rivalries, but the actual trophies)
5. Gold Nugget — Union Mine (El Dorado) vs. El Dorado (Placerville)
This year’s game is being played on Friday, Oct. 29.
4. Golden Spike — Roseville vs Woodcreek (Roseville)
Woodcreek won this year’s game back in September.
3. Gold Pan — El Dorado (Placerville) vs. Ponderosa (Shingle Springs)
It looks these two missed playing each other for this season. Let’s hope they get back to it next fall.
2. Granite Slab Quarry Bowl — Rocklin vs. Whitney (Rocklin)
Rocklin won this year’s game several weeks ago. The slab from actual quarry probably is the heaviest rivalry trophy in the state.
1. The Chief — Gustine vs. Newman (Orestimba)
The 75th annual edition of this game scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29. The series is tied 36-36-2, which makes this year’s game even more special. The Chief is a quite detailed, respectful wood carving.
Thanks to Jim and the FOX 40 team for letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
