Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five defensive backs this fall in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, according to CalHiSports.com.
This is the sixth season that CalHiSports.com and FOX 40 have partnered together to have these SJS Top 5 lists as part of the station’s weekly high school football highlights show. Tune in on Fridays at 10:30 for the Game of the Week, top four plays and more. The top 5 list from last week’s show is later revealed on our site. For the top 5 list for this week, it will be the top five baseball-football players in section history. Check out the show to see those names revealed.
TOP 5 DEFENSIVE BACKS IN CIF SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION
5. Aemon Aldrich (Foresthill)
We know this is a small school, but Aemon is currently leading the state in interceptions with 8 so he deserves a mention.
4. Mason Rivera (Kimball, Tracy)
Also a great receiver, Mason had 5 interceptions and 27 tackles in his first five games.
3. Mekhei Byrd (Natomas, Sacramento)
A junior to watch, he had three interceptions last spring and already had three this season after five games.
2. Cameron Sampson (Capital Christian, Sacramento)
We could have listed him for the receivers, but offers from Nevada, Colorado State and others are for defense.
1. Jomarion Briggs (Lincoln, Stockton)
One of the top corners in Northern California, he has offers from UCLA, Arizona and more.
Thanks to Jim and the FOX 40 team for letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
