There is one new team this week from the CIF Central Section, as the big news this week is the CIF Southern Section playoffs are going to tip off. We break down the section’s open division, while the rest of the sections with a post-season still have one more week to go in the regular season. Some ranked teams in Northern California also will be wrapping up their 2020-21 spring seasons this week.

Note About CIF Regional Championships: The CIF recently announced the reinstatement of regional championships after the section championships conclude on June 12. That wasn’t unexpected and something we mentioned in our State Top 25 rankings that was likely going to happen. The unexpected part was the regionals will take place in Southern California only. This year, with only two of the six Northern California sections offering playoffs, NorCal will not have regional championships. The CIF SoCal regional championships, which will include the CIF Central Section, will be complete by June 19.
For the second consecutive year, there also will not be any CIF state championships.
Last season, current state No. 1 Sierra Canyon won the SoCal Open Division title, but the very next day the sports world shut down and the CIF state championships were never played. The NorCal Open title game was never played because of a COVID-19-related delay in the regional bracket. So for the second consecutive year, NorCal will not have an on-court regional champion.
