Girls BB Schools of the Century (So Far)

Long Beach Poly’s girls basketball doesn’t often get the same attention as other sports at the school, but since 2000 would be No. 1 in a compilation ranking of top programs in California for the 2000s. They are shown above after 2014 CIF state final. Photo: Willie Eashman.

After doing a State Schools of the Century (so far) list several days ago based on a points system, we came up with one for teams based on top 20 state rankings finishes since the 1999-2000 school year. The first group figured out is for girls basketball. The leader, Long Beach Poly, has only been No. 1 twice in that time span, but has had many more top five finishes. St. Mary’s of Stockton and Archbishop Mitty of San Jose are second and third.

This is a post for Gold Club members only on CalHiSports.com. All of our annual preseason all-section, all-county and all-region football teams are being delayed in getting done until we’re more certain when the next season is going to start. Once done, all of those posts will be for Gold Club members only, but we’ll still have plenty of free content to check out. Not to mention, we’ve just put all of our football, baseball, girls basketball and boys basketball state records onto the site for Gold Club members. Note: We have been compiling final state rankings for girls basketball in California since well before the start of the 21st century. The state top 20 as part of those final rankings have been done since 1989. For the purposes of this content, we went through all of those final rankings since 2000 and have awarded points for the following: six for State Team of the Year, five for No. 2, four for No. 3, three for No. 4 and No. 5, two for top 10 and one for top 20.
