Boys & Girls BB State Stat Stars

Two of those featured in State Stat Star honor roll as the playoffs are now underway everywhere in the state are Teagan Thurman of Tehachapi (Central Section) and Clark Slajchert of Oak Park (Southern Section). Photos: Tehachapi News & Twitter.com.

For this edition of state record updates infused with some of the best individual outings of the last two weeks, we figure out where two of the top scorers in CIF Southern Section history — Clark Slajchert of Oak Park and Josh Christopher of Lakewood Mayfair — will wind up on the all-time state career list. The one that will be in front of both, although not until Friday night, will be Jalen Patterson from Liberty Ranch of Galt. We also have a report of a 69-point game from last month from a small school in the CCS. On the girls side, we go over more details from that 107-103 double-overtime game last week in which Alexis Whitfield of Chaminade had 43 points. Plus, more from freshman phenom Chloe Burke, Kiki Iriafen and Jzaniya Harriel.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cole Anderson (Clovis West, Fresno)
The junior sharp-shooter scored 33 points, made eight 3-pointers and raised his total for the season last week to 126 (just two off the CIF Central Section record) in a 85-65 win over Clovis. According to CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett, Anderson also is five points shy in joining the 2,000 point club (which will come in Saturday’s Open Division section semifinals vs. Arroyo Grande). Anderson already has the section record for most three-pointers in a career. He got that done with six 3-pointers and 28 points when the Golden Eagles lost 63-60 two weeks ago to Clovis East.
