We’re doing this feature for most weeks this season with a mix of topical comments on the leading issues in California high school sports, the best state stat stars of the previous week and state record updates. We start out with our thoughts about small, four-team playoff brackets at the top of some sections with one or two teams that are dominating all competition. Plus, we are announcing additional selections of baseball and softball players who can now call themselves all-state sophomores or all-state freshmen. All reported 400-yard quarterbacks from around the state are mentioned as well.
