Pitchers getting strikeouts took center stage among the state’s stat star standouts from last week. For baseball, it was J.T. Smith of Denair putting himself into the Cal-Hi Sports state record book by notching 20 Ks in a perfect game. For softball, Templeton’s Ashley Daugherty joined an exclusive club by recording her 1,000th career strikeout and in softball Oakland Bishop O’Dowd star Elizabeth Avery had back-to-back outings of 22, 17 and 18 strikeouts.
