Jarod Lucas’ chase for the CIF Southern Section (and fourth spot in state history) career scoring record continued on Tuesday night, but there was additional attention among prep basketball scribes in Southern California directed toward Joel Pastrana from small school Calvary Baptist of La Verne, who set a reported state record by making 23 three-pointers in one game. Pastrana also scored 70 points. We have more details about Lucas, Pastrana and the 75-point game from last week by San Bernardino’s Trayvon Davis. This week’s stat stars honor roll also has updates for state career scoring pushes from Jaime Jaquez (Camarillo) and Joseph Octave (Mary Star). For the girls, Haley Jones of San Jose Archbishop Mitty breaking the school career scoring record once held by USA Olympic legend Kerri Walsh is the highlight, along with Tulare’s Kaira Brown going over 2,000 career points.
