JSerra does indeed move up after suffering a loss since it was by just 35-28 to a St. John Bosco team that is No. 2 in these state rankings but is No. 1 in some national lists. Other moves completed included St. Francis of Mountain View up to No. 13, Narbonne of Harbor City up to No. 16 and Calabasas jumping into the top 25 mix with just a loss to JSerra and big matchup vs. Sierra Canyon coming up this week. We also have slight bumps for Pittsburg and Villa Park.

1. (1) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 6-0*
The top-ranked Monarchs were in a familiar place last Friday at Santa Ana Bowl, but on the opposite sideline. It was No. 24 Servite’s home game since it had a disagreement with rental fees at its usual home field – Cerritos College. However, for the Monarchs, there was no difference whatsoever. They put the hammer down on the Friars in the Trinity League opener for both schools, 35-0. It was MD’s fourth shutout of the season, all coming in the last five games. The Monarch also kept several streaks going. It was their 21st consecutive victory overall (not counting forfeits). It was their 12th straight Trinity League win. It was also their seventh consecutive win over rival Servite. Bryce Young was 15-for-19 (78.9%) for 219 yards and two touchdown passes. He also rushed for one score. Glenn “Shakobe” Harper rushed nine times for 104 yards (11.6 average). Mater Dei hosts hard-luck No. 19 Santa Margarita Catholic at the Santa Ana Bowl in this week’s game.
