Sac-Joaquin Top 5: Quarterbacks

We are happy to say that for the sixth straight year the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports is going to be part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.

On last week’s first show for the 2018 season, we revealed our list for the Top 5 quarterbacks in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section based on last year plus recruiting plus additional research. Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Kaiden Bennett (Folsom)
Kind of a no-brainer despite loss last week to De La Salle. Remember, he threw for 57 TDs and 4,400 yards last season for team that went 16-0.

2. Matt Jenner (Oak Ridge)
Son of former Cordova QB Scott Jenner had 11 TDs and no interceptions in first two starts last year. Both were playoff games. He also impressed in first game vs. Lincoln.

3. Tommy Turner (Lincoln)
On the actual show last week, we had Turner listed second and Jenner third, but did that before the two quarterbacks’ teams played. For this post, we’re simply flipping it around. We still like both of them. This Fighting Zebra has a big frame and had 2,500 yards as a junior.

4. Zach Larriere (Monterey Trail)
As an athlete, he has offers from Cal and other Pac-12 schools. He had nearly 1,500 yards combined passing & rushing last season. He also cracked 48 seconds in the 400 meters in track.

5. Grant Patterson (Vista del Lago)
He should have a big season with 2,100 yards from last year and top receivers coming back as well.

The 30-minute show is twice a long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market and is returning to Friday at 11 p.m. time slot.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five running backs in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including the Fan Favorite game of the week (Winters at Dixon). Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
