Preseason All-Northern Sec FB Team

The Redding area of the north has been on a lot people’s minds in recent weeks due to the destructive and deadly Carr Fire. Shasta High, which played in the CIF D3-AA state championship last season, was used for many services and we assume many students lost their homes. Shasta still has a few players left from its outstanding squad, but Pleasant Valley of Chico has the most impressive set of returnees and may be the team to beat in the top division.

Note: These preseason all-section teams will be done in the same 30-player format as the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. They are based on a combination of what the players did last season and college recruiting. Not every all-section team will have writeups of every player. Some will have an intro, then lists.

RELATED PRESEASON TEAMS: CIF Southern Section (Orange County) | CIF L.A. City Section | CIF Central Section | CIF Southern Section (Inland Empire) | CIF Central Coast Section | CIF San Diego Section | CIF Sac-Joaquin Section | Coming Next: CIF Southern Section (South Bay/Long Beach) or CIF North Coast Section (Redwood Empire) or CIF North Coast Section (East Bay)

Leading the way for this year’s preseason All-Northern Section football team is quarterback Tanner Hughes from Pleasant Valley of Chico. Hughes has great size at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds and last season passed for 1,816 yards and 16 TDs. He stepped in last season for previous quarterback, Kyle Lindquist, who led the Vikings to a CIF divisional state title two seasons ago.
