Section semifinals weekend often produces a lot of rankings changes and this week is no different. Biggest mover is Buchanan of Clovis, going from on the bubble to No. 35. Other newcomers this week are Marin Catholic of Kentfield, Downey, Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa, Del Oro of Loomis and St. Francis of La Canada.

26. (29) St. Mary’s (Stockton) 11-2
Despite having to use their third-string quarterback once again, the Rams knocked off previous No. 17 Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills 38-31 in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 semifinals. That win, plus Loomis Del Oro’s upset win over previous No. 27 Central Catholic of Modesto, also means that St. Mary’s no longer has to be behind Central Catholic in the state rankings due to a head-to-head loss. We almost moved the Rams into the Top 25, but didn’t want to drop Oakdale that far when it did not lose. Clearly, if St. Mary’s were to upset No. 6 Folsom this week in the section final, then it would be higher on the CIF bowl board and higher than Oakdale. In the win over the Trojans, head coach Tony Franks used senior Dusty Frampton out of the wildcat formation inside the red zone and Frampton rushed for two TDs. Overall, he had 28 carries for 147 yards. QB Hunter Low also delivered with runs of 55 and 38 yards on scoring drives. The huge difference, though, was an interception return TD by Justice Roque and a 100-yard kickoff return TD by sophomore speedster Jamar Marshall.
