Here’s some record updates and highlights of top players & teams from the recent week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.
FOOTBALL
The Roth brothers gave Liberty of Madera Ranchos a one-two punch in a 41-10 victory over Washington Union of Easton. Senior Kaleb Roth rushed for a career high of 222 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns while junior Wyatt Roth rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior kicker Kyler Collins of state-ranked Central (Fresno) set two school records by kicking four field goals that measured 47, 32, 26 & 29 yards and made 5-of-6 PATs for 17 kicking points in a 53-7 win over Clovis North. His 17 points is the third best in section history. Junior quarterback Trent Tompkins also had a stellar night by passing for 312 yards on 15 of 23 and had three touchdowns with one TD run.
Senior quarterback Braden Wingle of Bakersfield Christian matched his career high by passing for six touchdowns on 14 of 22 for 270 yards in a 55-0 win over Arvin.
Junior Rameriz of Selma rushed for a season high of 245 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns on runs of 34, 59 & 41 yards in a 31-14 win by the Bears over Immanuel of Reedley.
Quarterback Will Springer led Sierra Pacific of Hanford pass visiting Granite Hills of Porterville 25-12 as he passed for a game high of 296 yards on 21 of 32 with three TDs and two interceptions. He also rushed for a score. Springer’s favorite target was junior Jayson Littlejohn, who had 8 receptions for a career high of 150 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior Kazmeir Allen of Tulare rushed for 297 yards on only 11 carries and scored six touchdowns on runs of 49, 76, 39, 27, 23 & 48 yards in a 56-22 win by the Tribe against Porterville. Allen also now has 43 touchdowns for the season and 92 for his career. The 92 career TDs are fifth in section history.
Martin Plata of Fowler had a career high by rushing for 248 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns on runs of 47, 8 and 81 yards and had a 80-yard kick-off return as Fowler edged Minarets 33-27.
Quarterback Jaedyn Pineda of Visalia Mt. Whitney continues to have a hot hand. He passed for 368 yards on 23 of 38 and had three TD passes in 29-26 win against Hanford. In addition, Pineda rushed for 78 yards and one touchdown. Anthony Valencia also had seven receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Alex Trujillo of San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno) passed for a game high of 348 yards on 14 of 21 and had four touchdowns as Panthers pounded Madera 54-19. In same game, Jalen McMillan had six receptions for 210 yards while junior Kicker Max Arfsten had a career night by making a 40-yard field goal, one other field goal and six PATs for 12 kicking points.
Isaiah Hill from Liberty of Bakersfield had a fine night by rushing for 210 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns in a 45-13 win over Garces of Bakersfield.
And finally, Justin Hinzo from Ridgeview of Bakersfield passed for a season high by passing for 275 yards on 16 of 28 and had three touchdowns in a 20-0 win over East Bakersfield.
