With all of the byes and with No. 7 Folsom, No. 9 Chaminade and No. 10 Calabasas all winning in showdown games against other ranked opponents, there weren’t any changes at the top of this week’s rankings until we got down to No. 15. Upland was the biggest mover, going up from No. 24 to No. 19, in anticipation of its own big game against No. 8 Rancho Cucamonga. The big news from No. 4 Mission Viejo, meanwhile, is that longtime head coach Bob Johnson has announced he’s retiring at the end of the season.

Like all of the teams in the Trinity League, the Monarchs had their bye week to end September. They begin the next phase of their season on Friday playing state No. 13 Santa Margarita in their league opener. They have their league showdown with No. 2 St. John Bosco coming up the following Friday. In watching them at Levi’s Stadium, the Monarchs seem to be focused on playing one game at a time and to get to Sacramento State in December they’ll need to continue to do that.
