There are a lot more changes to this part of the package this week since Murrieta Valley forces its way back into the rankings after its impressive win against previous No. 25 Oaks Christian. No team got close to the kind of bump that the Nighthawks got, but among those who may be on the move are Pittsburg, Central Catholic of Modesto, Oakdale, Norco and Loyola (Los Angeles). Other newcomers are San Marcos of the CIF San Diego Section and Indkerkum of Sacramento.

26. (33) Pittsburg 3-1
Comparative scores do matter in our system and the margin by which the Pirates beat Vacaville last Friday is an example. They won 35-13 and were ahead 35-6 before Vacaville had a late score. This compares favorably to the one-point losses that Vacaville had in recent weeks to No. 18 Oak Ridge and No. 23 Granite Bay. It also shows once again how hard it can be to rank teams with blowout losses, like Pitt had to No. 3 Centennial of Corona in the first game. Justin Boyd’s 30-yard TD pass to A’jae Boyd in the third quarter pushed Pitt’s 7-6 halftime lead vs. Vacaville up to 14-6. The Pirates would go on to score 28 straight points. Pitt has a bye this week, then starts Bay Valley Athletic League play on Oct. 6 at No. 33 Freedom of Oakley.
