It isn’t often that a top 10 team drops out of the rankings the next week but that’s the situation this week as previous No. 9 St. Mary’s of Stockton, a team that was top five nationally to start the season, has to drop out after a series of losses including for the first time since 1998 to crosstown rival Lincoln last week in a game that saw junior star Ariel Johnson go down with an ankle injury. As for the top teams, Mission Hills and Carondelet flip this week based on a stronger overall resume for the Grizzlies, but the top eight spots don’t change other than that one move. There are two newcomers this week but Fairmont Prep was previously ranked and Pinewood was No. 14 in the preseason.
