Unbeaten Davis and Redondo move up to No. 1 and No. 2 in the state, but both teams know even winning a league title is no guarantee, especially with other state-ranked teams to contend with. Previous No. 1 Buchanan is now third with this week’s newcomer slots going to Bonita of La Verne, Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills, Chatsworth and Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco.

1. (2) DAVIS 12-0
Thanks to previous No. 1 Buchanan of Clovis dropping a game to Clovis North, the Blue Devils ascend to the state’s No. 1 ranking in baseball for what we think is the first time in school history. Just as Buchanan knows about playing in a tough league, so does Davis. The Blue Devils are in the same Delta League as new No. 5 Jesuit (Carmichael) and defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champ Elk Grove. The NorCal Boras Classic champs, who will play Mira Costa on May 7 at Cal for the Boras Classic “state” title, won in their only game last week 9-8 over Bear Creek of Stockton. Davis had to score in the bottom of the seventh to get that win in a back-and-forth battle. Solomon Biers-Ariel sparked the offense with three hits and three RBI. The Blue Devils play Franklin of Elk Grove on Monday of this week and have two other league games.
