Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, host Jim Crandell revealed a list of the top five defensive backs in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section for the 2014 season, according to CalHiSports.com.
Here is what that countdown revealed with player, high school and notes:
1. Justice Shelton-Mosley (Capital Christian) 6-0, 175, Sr.
He could be listed at receiver but we’re going for No. 1 among the DBs. He had eight interceptions last year and has offers from Cal, Duke, and – get this – Harvard.
2. Damarrio Hammonds (Patterson) 5-11, 165, Sr.
He had nine interceptions as a junior and doing a great job again for Tigers.
3. Shaunard Harts (Elk Grove) 5-10, 175, Sr.
He looked real good as a junior for the Herd and had six interceptions. Still shining as a senior.
4. John Horn (Yuba City) 6-1, 180, Sr.
We could have had him at receiver since he had 309 yards in receiving in one recent game. But he also already has seven interceptions on defense.
5. Devin Cates (River Valley, Yuba City) 6-3, 190, Sr.
He already has five interceptions this season and was recent NorCal Defensive Player of the Week.
Tune into this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a list of the top five players who have scored the most points in a single game in Sac-Joaquin Section history.
