Due to low sign up numbers, we are canceling the Cal-Hi Sports/Gold Medal Excellence All-Sports Speed Camp & All-State Football Combine for Saturday, June 14 at Wayne Schneider Stadium in Tracy and will instead focus our efforts on one event, which will be held on Sunday, June 22 at Liberty High School in Bakersfield.
The speed camp aspect of the event and the football combine are separate but open to partipants interested in both. The speed camp can be for non-football players as it will stress many aspects of improving speed and quickness that are essential to all sports. The combine also will include some inspirational messages for the campers in addition to testing in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, power ball throw, vertical leap and standing broad jump. All results will be posted on the Cal-Hi Sports web site and many participants could be targeted for future coverage on the web site.
“After going to the Nike combine at Laney College two weeks ago, I’d say about two-thirds of the athletes there just don’t have proper starts in their 40s or proper form,” said Cal-Hi Sports editor Mark Tennis. “The speed camp part of our event with Chris Asher therefore could be a strong niche for us. Chris is a great speed coach who just got back from being team manager for the USA junior national team at the world track relay championships and this week he’s been asked to go to the Philippines to train world-class athletes for a four-day camp.”
Anyone who has signed up and used a credit card for the Tracy event will be refunded as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience. It’s a new experience for us to be part of events and we just were a bit too ambitious trying to put on two of them in the first year.
