New S.F. Bay Area Volleyball Top 10

The only two teams in the Top 10 to take losses last week were Redwood and St. Francis, and all were at the Presentation Panther Challenge, and to teams ranked higher. Redwood lost to top-ranked Mitty and St. Francis lost to Redwood and Valley Christian. We provide these rankings as part of a promotion with the Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area TV show.

1. (1) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 21-2
St. Ignatius got a game off the Monarchs in a 3-1 WCAL opening victory in San Francisco, but they beat their next four opponents in the Panther Challenge by 2-0 scores.

2. (2) Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) 14-2
The Irish only had one match last week, a 3-0 win over visiting Presentation. Valley Christian on the road on Tuesday night should be a dandy.

3. (3) Valley Christian (San Jose) 17-3
The Warrior girls gave up a game in a WCAL 3-1 win at St. Francis but not in a 3-0 win at Belmont Notre Dame.

4. (5) Menlo (Atherton) 15-4
Two 3-0 wins on the road at Castilleja and Woodside Priory. Wins two weeks ago over Valley Christian and Irish puts the Knights past Redwood due to Mitty having a loss to Irish. Menlo also got a game off Mitty in 3-1 loss.

5. (4) Redwood (Larkspur) 21-1
Unbeaten record falls, but it comes to No. 1 Mitty as Giants girls were the latest ranked team to take a 2-0 loss to Mitty, and it was at the Presentation Panther Challenge. They won their other matches, including a 2-1 win over St. Francis. This loss only has them flip with Menlo.

6. (6) Branson (Ross) 13-6
The Bulls took their lumps early against the state’s top teams. Last week it was a pair of Marin County Athletic League 3-0 wins at Drake (San Anselmo) and Novato.

7. (7) St. Francis (Mountain View) 9-5
The Lancers had two losses last week at the Presentation tournament, but they were to Valley Christian and Redwood.

8. (8) Campolindo (Moraga) 9-5
The Cougars kept pace with two easy Diablo Foothill Athletic League victories.

9. (9) Monte Vista (Danville) 16-3
The Mustang girls rebounded from the loss to California two weeks ago by picking up two East Bay Athletic victories, including 3-0 over Concord Carondelet.

10. (10) Maria Carrillo (Santa Rosa) 15-3
The third team in the top 10 from the Redwood Empire breezed last week in North Bay League action, with 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park) and Windsor, respectively.
