New S.F. Bay Area Volleyball Top 10

Seven teams in the previous Top 10 lost at least once last week and that means we have three newcomers this week, including a surging Campolindo team that was a squad our media partner SportStars Magazine really liked to begin the season. The highest newcomer is a previously ranked Menlo team that Palo Daily News prep writer John Reid raves about, especially after the Knights took down Sacred Heart Cathedral and Valley Christian last week. We provide these rankings as part of a promotion with the Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area TV show.

1. (1) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 16-2
The Monarchs only had one match last week and they took a 3-1 home victory from previously state-ranked Homestead.

2. (3) Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco) 13-2
After a loss to Menlo, the girls went on to beat Mercy (San Francisco) and then they won the Serve It Up Founders Classic with three 3-0 wins.

3. (2) Valley Christian (San Jose) 15-3
A win over San Jose Santa Teresa preceded a 3-1 loss at an Atherton Menlo team that has losses to Mitty, Presentation, Clovis West and Sacred Heart Cathedral – and that means a slight drop.

4. (4) Redwood (Larkspur) 16-0
The Giants continue to roll with two wins last week, including a 3-1 victory at Branson.

5. (NR) Menlo (Atherton) 10-4
Including the wins over Sacred Heart Cathedral and Valley Christian last week, the Knights are 7-0 since the 3-1 loss at Presentation.

6. (7) Branson (Ross) 11-6
This team looks right on track for a run at another CIF Division V title.

7. (NR) St. Francis (Mountain View) 8-3
There are losses to Menlo and Clovis West, but the Lancers just beat Homestead and were set to play at Valley Christian on Tuesday.

8. (NR) Campolindo (Moraga) 7-5
Losses are to Pleasant Grove, Carondelet, St. Francis (Sacramento), Mitty and Branson, but the Cougars also have some good wins, including Maria Carrillo.

9. (5) Monte Vista (Danville) 14-3
The Mustangs girls beat Livermore Granada 3-2 but then lost 3-1 to California on the road.

10. (9) Maria Carrillo (Santa Rosa) 12-3
Pumas posted two wins in North Bay League action.

Dropped Out:
Previous No. 6 Carondelet (Concord), No. 8 Homestead (Cupertino), No. 10 Presentation (San Jose).
