FB: Helix QB transfers to Oceanside

On the first day of practice earlier this week in San Diego, quarterback Josh Harris hit the field at Oceanside and was not at Helix of La Mesa, the school where he threw for more than 2,000 yards last season.

Harris is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior who has some Division I interest. It is unclear whether he would immediately become the starter at Oceanside, where head coach John Carroll has been preparing two others all summer to be the replacement for graduated standout Tofi Paopao.

If Harris does become the starter, he’ll have a number of talented weapons around him such as receivers Thai Cottrell and Mikah Holder, not to mention two other skill players in DBs Jace Whittaker and Alijah Holder.

Oceanside opens its season on Aug. 30 against St. Augustine, but on Sept. 6 will host Serra of Gardena as part of the UT San Diego Honor Bowl weekend. Cal-Hi Sports has plans to cover those games wall-to-wall.
