Here is a look at scores through Saturday night, Oct. 20. Compiled by Paul Muyskens with comments from editor Mark Tennis. There were just two results from Saturday (both bubble teams). Go to our Twitter page @CalHiSports for info on games we have attended. Go to our Facebook page for more updates.
1. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 8-0
Defeated Monte Vista (Danville) 41-9. Longtime sideline observers of the Spartans agree that this was the team’s best performance since season-opening 41-7 win against Bellarmine.
2. NARBONNE (HARBOR CITY) 8-0
Defeated San Pedro 28-7. The Pirates had a win against Narbonne last year and always play the Gauchos tough.
3. VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 8-0
Defeated Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 45-17. Murrieta Valley also was unbeaten so this was a strong showing.
4. MISSION VIEJO 8-0
Defeated No. 15 Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita) 55-32. With No. 12 El Toro also winning, sets up a matchup between the two for South Coast League title.
5. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 6-2
Loss No. 11 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 27-19. Monarchs won’t drop that far in next week’s rankings, but will have to be behind St. John Bosco.
6. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA) 7-1
Defeated Orange Lutheran 17-14. Eagles are still in the mix for Trinity League title because they have yet to play St. John Bosco.
7. ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 7-1
Defeated Newbury Park 35-7. As long as Santa Margarita still has same number of losses, the Seraphs’ head-to-head loss to the Eagles is still going to hurt in the rankings.
8. ELK GROVE 7-1
Loss No. 14 Franklin (Elk Grove) 17-7. This loss may end up costing the Thundering Herd a berth in the first CIF Northern California Open Division bowl game.
9. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 7-1
Defeated King (Riverside) 49-17.
10. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 7-1
Did not play.
11. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 8-0*
Defeated No. 5 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 27-19. This win may be huge for the Braves, but not for anyone having to possibly seed a team in the playoffs with four forfeit losses.
12. EL TORO (LAKE FOREST) 9-0
Defeated Trabuco Hills (Mission Viejo) 35-17.
13. UPLAND 8-0
Defeated Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) 47-7.
14. FRANKLIN (ELK GROVE) 8-0
Defeated No. 8 Elk Grove 17-7. Nothing really leaps out and grabs you when watching the Wildcats, but they are solid in all facets of the game and are becoming more dominant on defense every week.
15. TESORO (RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA) 6-2
Loss to No. 4 Mission Viejo 55-32. Titans still have that head-to-head win over Chaparral and their two losses are both to higher-ranked opponents.
16. CHAPARRAL (TEMECULA) 7-1
Defeated Great Oak (Temecula) 21-14.
17. OCEANSIDE 7-1
Defeated Ramona 49-6.
18. FOLSOM 8-0
Defeated Sheldon (Sacramento) 49-13. Folsom ahead of Elk Grove in next week’s rankings? Yep, sounds like that makes sense because Bulldogs are unbeaten and eliminated Elk Grove last season from the playoffs.
19. LOMPOC 8-0
Defeated Santa Ynez 56-7. It’s getting tougher to keep the Braves ahead of Chaminade in the rankings, but if the two teams are seeded 1-2 in the CIFSS Western Division and play in the finals it really makes no difference.
20. EDISON (HUNTINGTON BEACH) 7-1
Defeated Marina 78-0. That’s a lot of points for the Chargers, but it wouldn’t have enough on Thursday night in that 86-79 game in the CIF Central Section.
21. BELLARMINE (SAN JOSE) 6-1
Defeated St. Francis (Mountain View) 16-7.
22. CRENSHAW (LOS ANGELES) 7-1
Defeated Dorsey 34-14.
23. OAKS CHRISTIAN (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 7-1
Defeated Calabasas 47-21.
24. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 7-1
Defeated Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood) 78-34.
25. HART (NEWHALL) 7-1
Defeated Saugus 35-0.
