Ivy Adiar (Rancho Bernardo, San Diego)
He may have found the end zone just once running the ball in the Broncos’ 27-26 loss to San Marcos but during his 32 carries he ran for 354 yards.
Cade Apsay (Canyon, Canyon Country)
In a 49-49 tie against Steele Canyon of Spring Valley, which looks like the highest-scoring tie in state history, Apsay completed 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 332 yards and four touchdowns. The previous highest scoring ties according to our own Cal-Hi Sports record book are 48-48 for Thousand Oaks vs. Newbury Park in 1970 and 48-48 for La Puente Bishop Amat vs. Chino Hills earlier this season.
Marcus Armstrong-Brown (Justin-Siena, Napa)
The Braves’ quarterback rushed for two TDs, passed for a third, returned a punt for a fourth score, and also recorded one of his team’s five interceptions, in a 42-6 demolition of visiting San Rafael Terra Linda.
Trevor Beardon (Live Oak, Morgan Hill)
In leading the Acorns to their fourth win to start the season, the junior rushed for 225 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns, including a 97-yard run, in a 42-0 blanking of San Jose Mt. Pleasant.
Antonio Castillo (Kerman)
He set two career highs, first by rushing for 246 yards and second by scoring four touchdowns, as the Lions edged Dos Palos 28-21. Kerman won for just the second time this season.
Nathan Cole (Aliso Niguel, Aliso Viejo)
In his best passing performance of the season, Cole completed 37 of his 48 pass attempts for 491 yards and seven touchdowns in a 50-41 win over Woodbridge of Irvine. It also set the school record for passing yards in a game.
Kane Cooper (Selma)
The senior running back ran for a career high of 264 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 37-26 win over Madera South.
Elijah Dale (St. Ignatius, San Francisco)
Dale went over hill and dale to rush for 213 yards and two TDs on 38 carries in the Wildcats’ impressive 42-28 win in San Jose at Valley Christian.
Mason Dossey (Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo)
Leading the Cougars to their sixth win of the season, Dossey was the boss as he completed 26 of his 46 pass attempts for 393 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-19 win at Beckman of Irvine.
Tanner Duron (Hughson)
This talented junior not only rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries but he also caught four passes and had an interception on defense in a 28-18 loss to Escalon.
Royce Freeman (Imperial)
One of the top juniors in the state, Freeman averaged over 27 yards per carry in a 37-21 win over Parker of San Diego. Freeman carried the ball 13 times for 353 yards and four touchdowns.
Tyrone Glimer (Oak Hills, Hesperia)
With a shine in his eyes every time the ball was thrown his way, Glimer caught eight passes for 250 yards and two scores in a 41-17 win over Silverado of Victorville.
Elbert Hamilton (Antioch)
The senior running back went over the 200-yard mark for the third time this season for the 5-0 Panthers, who are off to one of the best starts in school history. Hamilton rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-0 blanking of Concord Mt. Diablo.
Noel Hernandez (Piner, Santa Rosa)
He completed 30 of 46 passes for 323 yards and three TDs, but he also threw three picks in a 41-26 loss to unbeaten Analy of Sebastopol.
Jesse Holmes (Chico)
Although the Panthers dropped a high-scoring game to Enterprise of Redding 35-34, Holmes once again sparkled as a receiver. He caught nine passes for 213 yards and a pair of scores and increased his season totals to 46 catches for more than 800 yards and nine scores in just five games. Holmes also is one of the top basketball players in the CIF Northern Section and could be the best receiver from the section since Jeff Maehl (Oregon, Houston Texans) was a standout at Paradise.
James Hubbard (Lincoln)
In a crazy game that saw national attention for the way it ended, Hubbard ran for 319 yards and three touchdowns as the Fighting Zebras suffered a 44-43 overtime loss to Oakmont of Roseville. Oakmont won the game on a seemingly blind flip of the ball off a fake PAT attempt.
Ben Huckaby (Elliot Christian, Lodi)
In leading the Eagles to their fourth straight win, by a 56-0 score against Delta of Clarksburg, Huckaby racked up 326 yards rushing in 19 attempts and scored four touchdowns.
Matt Jimison & Brad Rittenhouse (Vista del Lago, Folsom)
Jimison connected with Rittenhouse for three catches that were taken to the house for touchdowns and finished with a total of five touchdown passes in a 63-12 victory over Liberty Ranch of Galt. He finished completing 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 419 yards and added one score rushing.
Kevin Kiff (Soquel)
To say Kiff was a king would be an understatement. Immediately after being crowned homecoming king, Kiff became like King Kong on defense. He blocked a field goal, blocked a punt attempt and also recorded a sack to lead the Knights past St. Francis CCC of Watsonville 42-0.
Mike Lauck (St. Francis, Mountain View)
According to San Francisco-based statistician Patrick Segurson, Lauck became the first Lancers’ quarterback since 1969 to pass for 300 yards or more when he did it during a 28-0 blanking of San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral. Lauck completed 12 of 20 for 322 yards and all four scores. On one of his TDs, a pass intended for one player was deflected by a defender, then grabbed by the Lancers’ Alex Andrighetto, who ran for an 83-yard score.
Anthony Lawrence (Grossmont, El Cajon)
Completing 16 of his 20 pass attempts for 300 yards and three touchdowns, Lawrence helped the Foothillers improve to 6-0 on the year with a 42-12 win over San Diego.

Lawson-Gayle also had four catches for 48 yards and a 69-yard kickoff return for a TD in the 4th quarter.

Luque was anything but lucky in a 35-0 blanking of Ukiah. The senior running back rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns in helping the Cougars remain unbeaten.
Connor Marden (Carmel)
From the school that gave us Devin Pearson as a prolific quarterback the last few seasons apparently will give us a similar talent for the next three years. Marden is just a sophomore but the Padres’ quarterback put up some huge numbers in a 56-45 win over King City, passing for 424 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 73 yards and a score.
Brandon Martinez (El Monte)
If Brandon’s 573-yard passing total against Bell Gardens is confirmed (another published total was 544), it would rank among the top 20 for a single game in state history. Martinez, who now has more than 1,800 yards for the season, also was reported with 30 completions in 47 attempts and had five touchdowns in El Monte’s 46-41 victory. The Lions needed Martinez to have a game like that, too, since Lancer Remigio had a huge game rushing the ball (38 carries, 247 yds, 3 TDs) for Bell Gardens.
Delshawn Mitchell (Wilcox, Santa Clara)
In a 51-35 win by the Chargers over Saratoga, Mitchell ran like a freight train with 319 yards and five touchdowns. His teammate, Roland Luke, also shined with 187 yards as the duo combined for 506.
A.J. Oto (Channel Islands, Oxnard)
With his team trailing 7-3 against Santa Paula, Oto was a key factor in a 24-7 comeback win. He rushed for 269 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries while also intercepting a pass and returning it 50 yards for a score.
Rashaad Penny (Norwalk)
Bouncing back fron their first loss of the season, the Lancers defeated Artesia of Lakewood 48-24 behind Penny, who scored six touchdowns. The highly recruited junior rushed for 151 yards and scored four touchdowns on 15 carries. He also caught two passes for 47 yards and two more scores.
Troy Poole (Esperanza, Anaheim)
Poole couldn’t lift the Aztecs out of a 24-21 loss to El Dorado of Placentia despite soaking the El Dorado defense for 230 yards rushing and one TD on 29 carries.
Jonte Price (Tahquitz, Hemet)
Outscoring Temecula Valley of Temecula on his own, Price rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries as the Titans earned a 54-21 victory.
Joe Protheroe (Clayton Valley, Concord)
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior running back makes this honor roll for the third time after rushing for 262 yards on just 15 carries with four TDs in a 55-15 rout of Hayward. Protheroe now has 1,111 yards and 12 TDs in five games for the Eagles.
Jerry Saldivar (Los Amigos, Fountain Valley)
Not making many friends on Ocean View of Huntington Beach, he ran the ball 23 times for 246 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-0 win last Saturday for the Lobos.
Aaron Taylor (Dinuba)
The fine wide receiver tied a school record by catching four touchdowns from junior quarterback Marcus Maryion as the Emperors beat Delano 56-21. Maryion also ended with 365 yards in the air.
Jacob Taylor (Rim of the World, Lake Arrowhead)
For the second week in a row, Taylor put up huge rushing numbers as he ran the ball 23 times for 300 yards and three scores in a 42-28 win over Desert Hot Springs.
Javon Taylor (Northview, Covina)
Despite finding the end zone just once, Javon finished with 230 yards on 29 carries as the Vikings defeated Pomona 20-10. On the season, he has just seven rushing touchdowns but he has scored at least once in all six of Northview’s games this season.
James Toland (Shadow Hills, Indio)
Quickly getting his name near the top of the state leaders for rushing, Toland followed up his 490 yards and seven touchdowns from the week before with 234 yards on 33 carries and five touchdowns in a 36-13 win over Xavier Prep of Palm Desert.
Joey Valdez (Upper Lake)
He rushed for three touchdowns, returned a kickoff for a fourth score, and recorded two sacks on defense, in a 72-24 romp over Stellar Prep of Hayward.
Travis Valdez (Camarillo)
Completing his first 13 passes of the second half, Valdez finished 20 of 27 for 328 yards and five touchdowns as the Scorpions defeated Oak Park of Agoura Hills 43-14.
Ben Walls & Deon Guther (Florin, Sacramento)
Walls not only rushed for two touchdowns but he also passed for 251 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers defeated Hiram Johnson of Sacramento 47-20. Guther caught seven passed for 159 yards and was on the receiving end for two of Walls’ touchdown passes.
Jonathan Walters (Saratoga)
The junior quarterback threw for 345 yards and four TDs but his team fell 51-35 to Santa Clara Wilcox.
Nsimba Webster (Deer Valley, Antioch)
Nsimba was sailing like legendary Sinbad the Sailor in an impressive 55-35 win over visiting Vacaville. The 6-foot-175 pound junior quarterback passed for 117 yards and two TDs and rushed for 221 yards on only 11 carries with one touchdown, a 68-yard romp.
Isiah Williams (Burbank, Sacramento)
Outscoring rival Sacramento High on his own, Williams ran for 245 yards and four touchdowns as the Titans moved to 5-0 with a 56-12 win over the Dragons.
Matt Woodcock (Nordhoff, Ojai)
Filling in for injured starting running back Tayler Livingston, Woodcock made sure the running game wouldn’t suffer as he rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns as the Rangers defeated San Marcos 55-7.

Your numbers for Jesse Holmes of Chico aren’t accurate. Maxpreps’ don’t add up in receptions, either, but your yardage is low on Holmes. His yardage is 876 through five games if you add up his individual totals. His line is 46 catches for 876 yards and nine TDs in five games. For some reason, Maxpreps doesn’t add them up correctly.for either yardage or receptions.
Marden of Carmel is a sophomore. His 1,027 yards passing through his first four games as a varsity starter set a school record. Ken Johnston, in 2006, threw for 1,026.
